As a special contest under the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest, the Invitational Contest is an embedded system design contest pitting outstanding undergraduates from domestic and foreign universities against one another. Its purpose is to further explore the special mechanism of contests in disciplines that could drive teaching reform and for feasible ways of cultivating undergraduate innovation capabilities.
Organization Form
The Invitational Contest is hosted by the Organizing Committee of the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest, and co-organized by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Intel China Ltd. sponsors the Contest and has named it the “Intel Cup”.
Proposal and Contest Form
1. All contest teams shall propose a subject and design an application system with a certain function (contest works) independently by using the Intel® Atom™ processor-based embedded platform.
2. This is an open contest and is not limited by the contest venue. Contest teams will spend their after-class hours to complete the design, production, debugging and design report of their works within the specified time.
3. The equipment and components required by contest teams shall be provided by the respective participating universities.
Contest Schedule
Contest Time: March 21 - June 30, 2012
Appraisal Time: July 15 - July 23, 2012
The awarding ceremony will be held after the appraisal.

First, second and third prizes will be presented. In principle, first prize winners shall account for 8% of total number of contest teams, and second and third prize winners shall account for about 16% and 36% of total number of contest teams respectively.
Contest Appraisal
To ensure the fairness, impartiality and transparency in the appraisal, all contest teams shall submit their contesting subject to the Organizing Committee Secretariat before May 31, 2012. The Contest will end on June 30, 2012.
The contest appraisal will be held at the Minhang campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University from July 15 to July 23.
Appraisal Requirements: The appraisal consists of two rounds. All teams will participate in the first round, and first prize candidates will be selected for the second round. In principle, the appraisal period for each team will last no more than one hour, which includes a works presentation (PPT, 15 minutes) and an on-site actual test and question time.
Characteristics: The Embedded System Contest always emphasizes the integration of theory with practice, and takes on the solving of practical problems as a purpose. Through adopting the appraisal of works as a guide, undergraduates are encouraged to select projects that are able to solve practical problems. Undergraduates will comprehensively utilize all aspects of basic knowledge in the practice of designing, fully giving play to their subjective initiative and innovative thinking.
